Description |
A fringed shirt and leggings made by Arloie McCoy for her son, Jason, probably in 1954, when he was six. Jason's father, Sanford McCoy (1909-1963), was Jackson Pollock's brother. Jackson and Lee visited the McCoys that Christmas, and Jackson decorated the outfit with strips of iron-on cloth with abstract elements. Jason's note accompanied the gift: "When I was a child I identified with American Indians, and my Mom nurtured my fantasy, making me an 'authentic' suit of shirt and leggings. One Christmas Jack was in Deep River and joined Arloie by adding iron-on embroidery. In honor of your tenure [as Pollock-Krasner House director], Helen, I would like to gift my 'authentic' Indian outfit to the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center. Yours, Jason" Gift of Jason McCoy in Honor of Helen A. Harrison. |
