Description |
In 1974 Lee Krasner entered into an agreement with Kennedy Graphics, New York, to create 210 signed and numbered original serigraphs for a portfolio commemorating the 1976 Montreal Olympics. She was one of fifteen distinguished American artists--including Richard Anuskiewicz, Alice Neel, Robert Goodnough, Leonard Baskin and Alex Katz--invited to create prints for the games. Krasner's design was based on, but not exactly the same as, her 1974 oil painting, Olympic. A poster of the design was also produced (see 2017.007). When asked to write a statement about her work she replied: "The opportunity for nations to come together, for a single event, such as the Olympics, provides a spirit in which all nations embrace."
